How do I store my wax melts?

I advise that you keep your wax melts in the packaging provided. The packaging is made from polypropylene and is biodegradable, it also helps to retain the scent of your wax melt. Please do not store your wax melts in plastic bags or wrap them in cling film as these materials will leach the scent from your wax melt.

To ensure you get the most out of your wax melt and their shelf life, store in a cool dark place, away from heat and direct sunlight.

How long will the scent last for when melting?

All of our wax melts are tested before being released for sale and will last an absolute minimum of 6 hours (per segment of snapbar) depending on the warmer you decide to use. Electric melters tend to burn at a lower temperature, meaning the scent will last longer.

The hotter your wax warmer gets, the more intense your scent will be, but it will have a corresponding shorter time for scent release. Similarly, if you have an electric wax warmer that is colder in terms of warming temperature, it will release a milder hot throw, but the scent will last for a longer period of time.

I can't smell my wax melt anymore

There are two possiblities here!

You could have been burning your melt for a long time and it may just be time to change to a new one. In that case, clean out your burner and pop a new melt on.

The other possibility is something ALOT of vendors suffer from (me included) nose blind! Yes, you read that right! I suffer from this quite a lot as I'm constantly making and testing lots of different fragrances. What normally tends to help me is a good long sniff of coffee beans (don't ask me why it works it just does). Or take a few minutes outside in the fresh air and take a few deep breaths through your nose before heading back indoors.

What are Parabens?

Parabens are preservatives that are present in lots of things from makeup to food. They're used to prevent mold and bacteria growing and to protect us from infection.

So What Do They Do?

Parabens have been around since the 50's. In 2004 a study was published by Dr. Philippa Darbre which found traces of parabens in the breast tumors of 19 out of 20 women who participated in the study. This doesn't necessarily mean that parabens cause cancer or are linked to it, but it did show that parabens do make their way into our skin from other products.

Since this study, more research has been undertaken to find out whether or not parabens are linked to cancer and just how dangerous they can be.

There's been lots of investigation from large organisations, such as BreastCancer.org, who note that "Parabens can penetrate the skin and act like a very weak estrogen in the body -- potentially turning on the growth of hormone-receptor-positive breast cancers."

Despite this research, The Cosmetic, Toiletries and Perfumery Association released a statement in response, stating that "Parabens are officially approved for use under the Cosmestics Direction (76/768/EEC), the European legislation that regulates all cosmetics and toiletries. We can reassure the public that all cosmetic and toiletry products containing parabens may continue to be used safely."

There are still lots of doubts surrounding the use of parabens, especially as they have been banned by other countries such as Denmark, however the jury is still out on their use and whether or not they are dangerous.

What are Phthalates?

Phthalates are a group of chemicals used in products like toys, detergents, nail polish, and hair spray. They’re used to make products more flexible and harder to break.

They’re added to fragrance oils for a few reasons. Certain aroma chemicals come in powder form, so a phthalate like diethylphthalate (DEP) is used to convert them into a liquid. That helps the fragrance blend better and burn more easily in candles and wax melts. DEP is also a fixative, which makes scent last longer in perfume, soap, and lotion. While it is true there are phthalates which can be safely used in making fragrance oils, we have decided to only use fragrances specially formulated to be phthalate-free.

This eliminates any concern from the effects of phthalates in our products.

What is frosting?

If you've ever seen a white-ish color coating on chocolate, then you have a good idea of what frosting looks like.

It is a byproduct of a natural wax and in no way affects the burn ability or fragrance of your product. It is caused by tiny crystal growth that forms on the top and sides of the wax. Frosting is a perfectly normal and an effect of using natural waxes and is also unique to vegetable waxes. It is the natural wax trying to return to its natural state. All natural waxes frost and is a sign that your products are made from a wax that is 100% natural.

Some waxes have additives to stop this frosting however if you want a 100% natural product then you can expect frosting.

Frosting does not affect the performance of your candle or wax melt and is something that you shouldn’t worry about as you still have a high quality product that will deliver a beautiful scent.

What should I use to melt my wax melt?

It is important that you use a wax melt warmer specifically made for that purpose (not an oil burner)! There are so many different options for you to choose, from ceramic to electric.

Tealight wax warmer.

Place your wax melt on the top of a wax warmer (never add water). Light an unscented 2-4 hour tealight to warm the burner for a controlled low flame and gradual diffusion of the fragrance. When melted, the wax will release its wonderful fragrance. If you're feeling adventurous you can mix different fragrances together to create your own unique blend.

Electric warmer.

You use this warmer the exact same way as described above (minus the tealight) and then just switch it on. Electric warmers are a lot cooler and tend to release a lovely delicate scent that is not as strong as a tealight warmer. They come in a variety of styles and look absolutely gorgeous when switched on in the evening adding to the ambience of your night The benefits a cooler burning warmer is that your wax melt will last a lot longer. I personally prefer electric warmers because of this.

If you use a burner that isn't designed for wax melts, it may crack, catch fire 🔥will become hot and burn the scent off to quickly and may sometimes result in actually releasing a burning scent (due to excessive heat).
